Water-basedGlaze

CPH600

CPH600 clear waterborne wood glaze (tinting base)

Clear waterborne glaze with wax, sold as the base (binder) for tinting glazes. It protects wood against the weather and UV, leaves a water-repellent (hydrophobic) film and does not fade. It contains no biocides, so it is fine indoors. Outdoors, put a protective impregnation down first.

  • Gazebos and pergolas
  • Wooden items used indoors and outdoors
  • Base for custom glaze colours tinted with CPH1/3/9/10 concentrates

Making a custom glaze colour: tint with the base pigment concentrates CPH1 (yellow), CPH3 (red), CPH9 (black) and CPH10 (white) at 1–10 %, depending on the shade you want.

The dealer's note has a typo, 'CFH6'; from context it means CPH600. Always check the colour on a sample board of the same species.

Sanding between coats
optional light denib P240–P320 after the first coat if the grain is raised; dust off and do not cut through the colourrecommended

Brush along the grain in thin, even coats with no puddles. Stir before use, because the wax and the tint settle. Outdoors, impregnate first. Brushing is the only officially listed method.

HVLP

NOT listed by the manufacturer. If you do spray it, lay it on thin and immediately brush it out along the grain to work it into the pores. Use spray gear rated for waterborne (stainless).

Process and compatibility

Substrate preparation
Dry, clean, dust-free wood. Outdoors, treat with a protective impregnation first (the catalog says CPH6; the dealer says CTH100).catalog

CPH6 / CTH100
Don'ts
  • Do not use outdoors without a protective impregnation first, because the glaze has no biocides
  • Do not thin by 400–1000 % like the CPH pigment stains; that rate is for the concentrates, not the glaze
  • Do not apply below +10 °C, in rain or on wet wood

Safety: Waterborne and biocide-free, so it is approved for indoor use (catalog). No safety data sheet was found. Wear gloves and keep the room ventilated.
