APL22402
APL22402 Chrome effect, Champagne (liquid chrome special-effect metallic paint)
Decorative 'Chrome' special-effect paint in Champagne. A professional, highly pigmented solvent-borne metallic enamel for furniture, décor and craft work, giving a mirror-like metallic finish with strong metallic lustre ('liquid gold leaf with a chrome effect'). It stands in for gilding and imitates leaf gilding at a fraction of the cost, with no precious metals in it. The pigments won't oxidise, tarnish or fade. Single-pack; for spraying it is reduced with S10 or S30 (30 % by weight). Interior use only. It's less abrasion-resistant than 2K enamels, so on parts under heavy service wear a protective acrylic clear coat is recommended; otherwise it needs no lacquer (per the product card), and any clear coat on top reduces the mirror effect.
- Decorative finishing of furniture, interior items, accessories, carvings, frames and mouldings
- Imitation gilding/silvering in place of real leaf
- Art, craft and restoration work
- On wood, metal, PU-foam mouldings, glass, ceramics and plastic
- Interior use only

Mixing matrix
- S10Thinner% by weight: 30 %dealer% by volume: 35 %dealer
Default for spraying. S10 is a fast thinner (SG 0.790) and is also used for cleaning the gun.
Stir the paint thoroughly before reducing and from time to time while spraying.
- S10Thinner% by weight: 30 %catalog
Liquid-gold-leaf catalog: 'Thinner S10 — 30 parts by weight' (APL 2xxxx series incl. chrome).
- S30Thinner% by weight: 30 %dealer% by volume: 35 %dealer
Equal alternative to S10 per the dealer's table (S10 / S30, labelled 'thinner for PE / thinner for PU'), same 30 % by weight / 35 % by volume.
Per the dealer, S30 is also a fast-evaporating thinner (for PU, acrylic, PE and UV materials), so it does not slow things down vs S10; Technocolor names no slow thinner for this paint.
- Thinner% by weight: 0 %recommended
Brush or sponge: per the product-card tips apply neat in a thin coat of 80–100 g/m² (shake well).
Neat brushing isn't stated explicitly, but the brush/sponge tips mention no reduction.

- If a clear topcoat is used: dealer table full dry 1 h at 20 °C, product card full dry 12 h — overcoat no earlier than 1 h, preferably after 12 h. Lacquer is optional (card: 'no lacquer needed'), recommended only for high-wear parts.dealer
- Sanding between coats
- never sand or denib the chrome coat itself — any abrasion cuts through the flake layer; sand the base P800–P1000 before applyingdealer
15–20 cm distance, 50 % overlap, steady passes; a light mist pass first, then a closing pass. Don't lay it on wet — the metallic will run and go dark. Flush the gun straight away with S10 (officially S10 can be used for cleaning equipment). (Spray settings are an engineering recommendation; Technocolor doesn't publish any.)

Good for small parts and décor; a touch-up mini gun with a 0.8–1.0 mm tip at 1.5–2.5 bar works well on small items.

Process and compatibility
- Substrate preparation
- Apply over a properly prepared enamel or lacquer surface; sand it P800–P1000 before the liquid leaf goes on. Use a base of similar colour; for the strongest mirror effect use a dark gloss base (catalog: primer → black enamel → gloss lacquer → chrome).dealer
- Sanding
- Base: P800–P1000 before application. Never sand or polish the chrome layer itself.dealer
- Temperature and humidity
- Drying data are given at 20 °C. Work at 18–25 °C, RH no higher than ~70 %; both listed thinners (S10, S30) are fast — high humidity can cause blushing, so warm the part/room and lower the humidity rather than swapping to a thinner the maker doesn't list.recommended
- Topcoat effect
- 'Applying lacquer over the enamel reduces the decorative effect'; product card: 'No need to lacquer', 'doesn't lose its shine', but 'for surfaces under heavy service wear we recommend a protective coat of lacquer' (the dealer names ATL70 aerosol). Catalog: 'a gloss topcoat changes the effect'.dealer
- Don'ts
- Don't put it on surfaces under regular wear without a protective clear coat
- Don't use outdoors — interior only
- Don't sand or polish the chrome layer
- Don't flood it on — the metallic will run and go dark (recommendation)
- Don't add hardener — it's a single-pack product (recommendation)
Storage
- Storage temperature
- +5…+25 °C, tightly closed, away from heat and ignition sourcesrecommended
- Packaging
- 100 g jar (retail 'Жидкий хром' pack), 1 kg (sold by kg; offer pack size 1 kg)
Safety: Solvent-borne paint reduced with S10/S30 — flammable. Spray in a booth or with good extraction, wear a respirator with organic-vapour filters (A2P2), gloves and goggles; keep away from ignition sources. No SDS found publicly.
