VPS20028
VPS20028 White UV-cure roller primer
White pigmented UV-curing primer for roller-coater application on flat panels. Levels well, has high physical and chemical resistance and stays stable on the line. Roller spread 20–25 g/m² per pass.
- Opaque white finishes on flat furniture panels (MDF, particleboard, plywood) on a UV roller line
- Primer build under white UV roller enamels
- Flat parts only: unrouted doors, shelves, carcass sides
Single-component product: no mixing needed — use as supplied (see application below).

Mixing matrix
Normally used as supplied. Only to trim viscosity in a cold shop (below ~18 °C).
Any solvent must leave before the lamps (IR/warm air), or you get blisters and under-cure. Warming the material to 25–30 °C is better than thinning.

Characteristics
- Properties (official)
- Good levelling, high physical/chemical resistance, stable in operation.official
- Drying · Cure
- UV cure: 80–120 W lamps (as printed in Technocolor schedules; in practice usually 80–120 W/cm medium-pressure mercury lamps); between coats 1 lamp at 10 m/min (gel cure), last primer coat 3 lamps at 10 m/min before sandingrecommended
- Drying · Conditions
- UV line, no air-dry stage (100 % solids, no solvent flash-off)

Application
Roller coater (UV)
- Recoat
- Immediately after a 1-lamp gel cure (wet-on-gelled)recommended
- Sanding between coats
- No sanding between intermediate passes; after the last pass and full cure sand P240–P320 (wide-belt sander)recommended
- Roller
- Rubber-covered applicator roll ~25–35 Shore A with steel doctor roll; set synchronous/reverse to the linerecommended
- Unsupported methods
- hvlprecommended
Flat parts only (roller method). Methods page: roller coating gives the highest transfer efficiency and thin films of 5–20 g/m²; 98–100 % solids UV materials suit it best. Roller coater only: spray and curtain are not supported (100 % solids, not sprayable viscosity) — use Technocolor's spray-grade UV products for spraying.
Process and compatibility
- Substrate preparation
- Flat, calibrated panel sanded P150–P220 and dust-free. On MDF/PB, fill first with white UV roller putty VPS20019 (20–25 g/m²) and cure.recommended
- Goes over
- VPS20019
- Goes over: basis
- derived — same white roller UV line; schedules put roller putty before roller primer
- Goes under: basis
- derived — white UV roller enamels in the same range (official pages: VPL20040 40 gloss, rollers 12–20 g/m²; VPL20053 gloss, laser-engraved rollers 20–25 g/m²); no official schedule names VPS20028
- Sanding
- P240, P280, P320 after full cure of the last coatrecommended
- Temperature and humidity
- Material and parts 20–30 °C, RH ≤ 70 %recommended
- Don'ts
- Do not use on profiled parts — flat panels only
- Do not spray (use VPS60011 for spraying)
- Do not over-thin — solvent under the lamp blisters
- Do not sand before the final pass is fully cured
- Do not leave containers open in daylight — the material cures under UV/sunlight
Storage
- Storage temperature
- 5–30 °C, closed opaque container, away from sunlightrecommended
Safety: UV acrylates are skin sensitisers: nitrile gloves, goggles, avoid skin contact; never look at the UV lamps unprotected. No SDS published by Technocolor.
