APL22403
Chrome-effect paint, bronze
Bronze shade of the 'Chrome' special-effect paint: a highly pigmented, solvent-borne acrylic metallic enamel with a mirror-like effect and bright metallic sheen (essentially a liquid gold-leaf paint with a chrome effect). Replaces gilding and imitates leaf work (gold and silver in various shades) at a fraction of the cost. For furniture, interior pieces and decorative items in wood, metal, PU foam and glass. Interior only; not for surfaces that take regular wear. Abrasion resistance is below a 2K enamel, so parts that get handled can be top-coated with acrylic lacquer (the dealer suggests ATL70 aerosol restoration lacquer) — but any lacquer over it dulls the effect.
- finishing furniture, interior pieces, accessories, art and craft work
- decorating wood, metal, PU foam, glass and other materials (bronze-tone metal imitation)
- the 'Chrome' finish from the special-effects catalog (over gloss lacquer on black enamel)
Single-component product: no mixing needed — use as supplied (see application below).

Mixing matrix
Dealer standard: S10 (fast; polyester/patina/dye thinner) or S30 (fast; PU thinner). Both are fast — right for thin metallic coats.
30 by weight / 35 by volume. Stir the settled pigment back in fully before thinning. Slower thinners (S50/S80) are not listed by the dealer.
- S10Thinner
Potal/chrome catalog: S10 at 30 parts by weight — agrees with the dealer.

Gun 15–20 cm off, 50 % overlap, steady pace, keep a wet edge — uneven passes give stripes and clouding. Several light passes beat one heavy one.

Production only; on small decorative parts HVLP is better — 20–30 g/m² is hard to hold with airmix.
Brush
- Allowed
- yescatalog
Brush only for small details and touch-ups; mirror effect is weaker than sprayed. Brush consumption not published.
Process and compatibility
- Substrate preparation
- 'Chrome' system from the special-effects catalog: PPS50277 white primer → RAL 9005 black enamel → ATL21226 gloss lacquer → chrome effect onto the gloss surface → ATL21226 gloss acrylic lacquer. The smoother and glossier the ground, the stronger the mirror. General potal rule: lay it over a ground of similar tone.catalog
- Sanding
- never sand the chrome coat; the gloss lacquer under it must be fully cured and clean — fine-sand only if needed (P800–P1000) and re-glossrecommended
- Temperature and humidity
- 18–25 °C, RH 50–70 %recommended
- Don'ts
- don't use outdoors
- don't use bare on wear surfaces (handles, tops) — lacquer them
- don't spray without stirring thoroughly — the pigment settles
- don't sand or polish the chrome coat
- remember any lacquer over it dulls the mirror — test on a sample first
