APL22300

Gold-leaf effect paint, silver (pearlescent)

Solvent-borne metallic paint with a pearlescent sheen that imitates leaf gilding (here silver) at a fraction of the cost. For decorating wood, metal, PU foam (PPU), glass and similar. Interior use only. Abrasion resistance is lower than a 2K enamel, so top-coat it with acrylic lacquer where it will be handled.

  • decorative detailing on furniture, frames, carvings and mouldings
  • faux silver-leaf on wood, metal, PU foam and glass
  • accent details in special-effect finishes

Single-component product: no mixing needed — use as supplied (see application below).

Mixing matrix

  • S30 / S13Thinner

Dealer: S30 or S13 (dealer table labels them 'thinner for PE / for PU'). Per the catalog both are FAST: S30 for PU, acrylic, PE and UV materials; S13 for stains, patinas, PE primers, PU, acrylic and UV materials. Either works; being fast, in heat or on big flat panels they can give dry spray — work quicker, in smaller sections.

Dealer gives 30 by weight / 35 by volume. Stir the settled pigment back in fully before thinning.

  • S10Thinner

The potal catalog lists S10 at 30 parts by weight for APL 2xxxx liquid potal; not confirmed by the dealer for the APL223xx effect line.

Possible substitute when S30/S13 are not to hand (inference, not manufacturer-confirmed for APL223xx). S10 is fast with high diluting power (catalog).

Percentages are per 100 parts of component A.

Gun 15–20 cm off, 50 % overlap, steady pace — stripes and clouding on metallics come from uneven passes. Keep the edges wet.

Conventional spray

Gives more even flake lay-down than HVLP, but more overspray.

Brush

Consumption
not published (dealer gives 60–80 g/m² for brush on sister APL22157)recommended

Dealer lists brush application — for details, carvings and touch-up. Use soft brush, little or no thinner, and don't overwork it.

Sanding

Don'ts
  • don't use outdoors
  • don't spray it without stirring thoroughly — it settles hard
  • don't sand or polish the potal coat
  • don't leave it unlacquered on handles and edges — it wears through
Topcoat caution
Over-coating with gloss lacquer changes the effect (dealer note on APL22157, catalog note on chrome APL21081) — do a test panel first.recommended
