VTL20100

UV-curing gloss roller lacquer, clear (100 gloss)

Single-pack, 100 %-solids clear UV-curing gloss lacquer for roller-coater lines on flat parts. Flows out well in thin films, gives a deep gloss, good chemical/physical, scratch and temperature resistance. Can be run on smooth or grooved/knurled application rollers.

  • Clear 100-gloss topcoat on flat furniture panels, shelves, carcase sides and flat doors
  • Gloss finishing of veneered panels on UV roller lines
  • Thin-film top over clear UV roller primers (VTS20082 → VTS20048/VTS20012 → VTS20032 → VTL20100)

    % by weight: 0–5 %catalog

Only when the lacquer runs too heavy for the target coat weight (cold shop, 8 g/m² film). Default is no thinning.

VTL10000 is a UV-reactive diluent (it cures into the film), not a solvent. The manufacturer lists no solvent (S30/S31) for VTL20100; on a roller line without a flash zone solvent would be trapped in the film. More than 5 % lowers hardness and chemical resistance.

  • D91Additive
    % by weight: 3–5 %catalog

When cure is marginal (weak/aged lamps, high line speed, surface stays tacky after the lamps).

D91 = photoinitiator for clear UV coatings (2019 catalog additive table, 3–5 %). Not specified for VTL20100 itself — use only if needed, after a test panel.

Percentages are per 100 parts of component A.

Sanding between coats

Unsupported methods

Flat parts only. Gloss shows every speck and substrate defect — sand the primer P240–P320 and de-dust thoroughly. Control viscosity with material temperature, VTL10000 up to 5 % if needed. Roller coater only: spray and curtain are not supported (100 % solids, not sprayable viscosity) — use Technocolor's spray-grade UV products for spraying. recommended

Don'ts
  • Do not spray or curtain-coat — roller grade only
  • Do not thin with S30/S31 solvents (not listed by the manufacturer for VTL20100; a roller line has no flash zone) — VTL10000 up to 5 % only
  • Keep the tray/can out of daylight and away from UV lamps — it will start to cure
  • Not for profiled parts
  • Do not apply over a fully cured UV layer without sanding — poor adhesion

Storage

Storage temperature
5–25 °C, dark, closed opaque containerrecommended

Safety: Uncured acrylates are skin sensitisers: nitrile gloves and safety glasses, wash off skin with soap and water (not solvent). Shield eyes/skin from UV lamp radiation. Cure leftovers in light before disposal.

  • VTL10000 is still a current code (2025 catalog lists it for VTL40044/VTS40041), but the 2025 VTL20100 entry gives no thinner — the 0–5 % figure comes only from the 2019 catalog
