S99

S99 Paint and lacquer stripper

Technocolor stripper for removing old finishes: polyester (PE), polyurethane (PU), acrylic, UV-cured and other coating types. Used for restoration and for reworking rejects: it softens the film, which is then lifted with a scraper and brush, and the residue is washed off with solvent. There is no official page or TDS on t-color.ru; the dealer publishes only the field of use.

  • Stripping old PE, PU, acrylic and UV-cured finishes from furniture and parts
  • Furniture restoration before refinishing
  • Reworking rejects: taking off a failed lacquer/enamel coat

S99 is a component, not a base: proportions are set on the base material's page. No base in the catalog lists a ratio for S99 yet — see the table below.

Lay on a thick coat with a soft brush in one direction, don't work it in. Leave until the film wrinkles/softens (usually 10–30 min) and don't let it dry out — cover with polythene if needed. Lift the softened finish with a scraper along the grain; use a stiff or brass brush in open pores. Repeat on heavy builds.

Final wipe of residue with rags, then a solvent wash (S50) — see mix.

Process and compatibility

Substrate preparation
Dust off; test on a hidden spot; mask neighbouring surfaces.recommended
Goes over

After stripping
Wash with S50, let solvent fully leave the wood (≥24 h), sand P150–P180 → P220–P240, de-dust and restart the system from the sealer (e.g. ATS20/PTS50).recommended
Sanding
Sand only when fully dry: P150–P180, then P220–P240.recommended
Temperature and humidity

Don'ts
  • Don't add it to lacquers or enamels — it is not a thinner
  • Don't let the stripper dry on the surface
  • Don't use without extraction, gloves and goggles
  • Don't leave stripper residue in the pores before refinishing
  • Careful on veneer: long dwell can soften glue lines and lift/bleach veneer (test first)

Safety: Composition not published. Treat as an aggressive, flammable solvent: good extraction, no ignition sources, nitrile/butyl gloves, goggles and an A-type (organic vapour) respirator; flush skin/eyes with plenty of water. Put waste (lifted coating, rags) in a closed metal bin.
