HPL1 UM

HPL1 UM white waterborne converter (tint base), extra-matt, 10 gloss

White waterborne (acrylic dispersion) converter, extra-matt, 10 gloss, for the SPECTRUM tinting system. Tinted with waterborne CH pastes by SPECTRUM recipe (a white base is mainly for light and pastel shades); untinted it is a white waterborne enamel. Single-component — no hardener, thinned with water only (0–10 %). Solvent-free and low-odour, so it's fine for kids' furniture, kitchens and bathrooms; stays white without yellowing.

  • Base for tinting waterborne enamels (CH pastes)
  • Furniture fronts and panels in various wood species
  • MDF and solid wood; fronts, doors, tables, chairs, kids' furniture, toys (woodonline)
  • Interior painting of furniture, slatted wall panels, interior doors, lining boards, laminated chipboard/MDF/particleboard; refurbishing (dealer, HPL1 UM)

  • waterThinner

Clean (ideally demineralised/filtered) water only. More water in hot weather or for a thin final coat.

No solvents (S50, S80 etc.) — they will shock the dispersion.

Pressure · air · Cap
≤ 0.7 barrecommended
Sanding between coats
P320–P400 (grey/ultra-fine pads on profiles)recommended

15–20 cm distance, 50–75 % overlap. Spray above 15 °C and below 70 % RH (dealer). Never add more than 10 % water. Flush the gun with water before and after; blow it dry after cleaning so nothing rusts. Don't sand or polish the final coat — the matt level comes from the enamel itself.

Conventional spray

Higher consumption because of overspray (transfer efficiency up to ~40 %).

Airmix (air-assisted airless)

Spray viscosity
unthinned or 0–5 % waterrecommended

Officially, airmix suits finish coats better than airless.

Brush

For small areas and repairs; official consumption and viscosity are for spraying. Use a synthetic brush.

Roller

Short-nap velour/microfibre roller; don't re-roll a film that has started to set.

Process and compatibility

Substrate preparation
Sand MDF/solid wood P180–P240 (solid P150–P180), de-dust; prime with a white waterborne primer and sand the primer P280–P320. Surface dry, clean, free of silicone and wax. Wood moisture 8–12 %.recommended
Don'ts
  • Don't thin with solvents — water only, max 10 %
  • Don't tint with CS pastes
  • Don't apply below 15 °C or above 70 % RH
  • Don't let it freeze (presumed — waterborne dispersion)
  • Don't sand or polish the final matt coat
  • Don't leave waterborne material sitting in the gun — flush with water right away
